I WAS HERE

Supported by Improvised Music Centre’s patron- style, matched funding initiative Incubator

I WAS HERE is a multidisciplinary project about our relationship with nature. The process began in March 2023 and culminated in December of the same year. The first iteration of the project came in June 2022 when Jennifer embarked on a cycling trip along the coast of Portugal. Taking 60 second videos at various points along the way, collecting the coordinates on the map, the intention was rooted in presence. The passing of time and the need to feel present is an important theme in Jennifer’s work, acutely aware that no moment is replicable; each and every moment is unique and therefore perfect.

The process involved spending time in Dublin’s Phoenix Park, throughout the year with a view to making music with and in nature as the seasons changed. The result is a music trail with 7 points throughout the park, each with their own invitation.

Using various influences, such as coordinates on the map, historical buildings and the sounds and people in the spaces, Jennifer composed 7 musical pieces for performance. The plan now is to record these pieces and host them on an online platform so that an audience can listen to the music and walk the trail in real time.
